The Bovano Process
Copper
The base metal used to make all of Bovano Glass Sculptures.
Cut and Shape
Bovano Artisans cut, shape and clean the copper parts to give them form and texture before they are enameled.
Applying the Glass
In a delicate process, pulverized glass is applied to the copper surface using a sifting and sprinkling method.
Fusing the Glass and Copper Together
Now that the glass has been layered on the copper, it is fired in a kiln at 1600 degrees F where the glass becomes red hot and fuses together with the copper. As the glass cools, the brilliant opaque and transparent colors emerge. Several firings are necessary to achieve the desired look of each piece.
Creating the Sculpture
Welding and Brazing techniques using steel, brass, and bronze are used to assemble the final piece
Bovano Glass Enameled Sculptures are known world wide for their excellence in design and craftsmanship.
